Course Goals/ Objectives/ Competencies: Goal 1: Relate thematic concerns of literary texts to their cultural and historical contexts.
- Students will explain the effect of cultural and historical context on the themes, content and style of literary texts.
Goal 2: Analyze thematic and stylistic characteristics of works studied.
- Apply appropriate terminology when analyzing literary works.
Goal 3: Recognize characteristics of the English language in Old English, Middle English and Modern English periods.
- Describe characteristics of the English language in Old English, Middle English and Modern English periods.
Goal 4: Document conclusions they draw in written responses to literary works studied.
- Students will employ standard research and research-writing methodology when writing literary research papers.
