ARTS 225 - Art for the Elementary Teacher3 credit (2 lecture, 1 lab) 3 contact hours This course combines instruction in the practice and philosophy of teaching arts and crafts to children, with studio work in a variety of materials and techniques suitable for their use. Students are involved with both academic and practical experiences that are selected to prepare future teachers to relate to the needs and interests of children. Additional time is required for observations and participation. A comprehensive approach to art education that includes historical and current issues from cultural perspectives, art criticism, aesthetics and art making is applied. OFFERED: spring semesters
