Course Goals/ Objectives/ Competencies: Goal 1: Demonstrate introductory musical knowledge about singing skills.
- Develop an individual contract in conjunction with the instructor, outlining the musical objectives they plan to meet by semester’s end.
- Practice and perform two pieces of music in contrasting styles.
- Explain the musical terms as they apply to each song.
Goal 2: Demonstrate an introductory knowledge of correct body positioning as needed for singing.
- Demonstrate correct posture.
- Demonstrate correct balance.
- Demonstrate breathing and breath-support techniques.
Goal 3: Demonstrate an introductory level of critical-listening skills.
- Identify elements of good singing in other performers.
- Identify elements of good singing in themselves.
- Demonstrate self-awareness of personal vocal strengths.
