WELD 275 - Welding Automation

3 Credit: (1 lecture, 4 lab, 0 clinical) 5 Contact Hours: [WELD 101 


Students in this course will be introduced to welding automation. Students will learn basic robotic programming using Fanuc robots. Joint design, weld fixturing, and the importance of welding parameters will be covered. All welds will be held to the American Welding Society standards for defects and profile.

Goal 1:  Explore motion programming types 

  1. Program Joint Movement. 

  1. Program Linear Movement. 

  1. Program Circular Movement. 

  1. Apply Fine Termination. 

  1. Apply Continuous Termination. 

  1. Adjust motion speed rates. 

Goal 2:  Explore Robotic Frames 

  1. Program in World Frame. 

  1. Program in User/Base Frame. 

  1. Program in Tool Frame. 

Goal 3:  Demonstrate welding theory and processes on various metals. 

  1. Assess the requirements of a proposed weld. 

  1. Select the appropriate welding process for a particular job. 

  1. Create a structurally sound weld on various metals in the flat, horizontal, vertical, positions.
