ITIF 220 - Server Administration

In this course, students will learn how to install, manage and troubleshoot servers in data centers as well as on-premises and hybrid environments.  Content aligns to the CompTIA Server+ certification exam.

Course Goals/ Objectives/ Competencies:
Goal 1:  Demonstrate server hardware installation and management.

  1. Install physical hardware.
  2. Deploy and manage storage.
  3. Perform server hardware maintenance.

Goal 2:  Execute server administration.

  1. Install server operating systems.
  2. Configure servers to use network infrastructure services.
  3. Configure and maintain server functions and features.
  4. Explain the key concepts of high availability for servers.
  5. Summarize the purpose and operation of virtualization.
  6. Discuss scripting basics for server administration.
  7. Explain the importance of asset management and documentation.
  8. Explain licensing concepts.

Goal 3:  Manage security and disaster recovery.

  1. Summarize data and physical security concepts.
  2. Explain data security risks and mitigation strategies.
  3. Apply server hardening methods.
  4. Summarize proper server decommissioning concepts.
  5. Explain the importance of backups and restores.
  6. Explain the importance of disaster recovery.

Goal 4:  Troubleshoot server errors. 

  1. Explain the troubleshooting theory and methodology.
  2. Troubleshoot common hardware failures.
