Course Goals/ Objectives/ Competencies: Goal 1: Relate thematic concerns of literary texts to their cultural and historical contexts.
- Identify key ideas from representative authors and works, significant historical and cultural events, and characteristic perspectives expressed in literature of different periods or regions.
Goal 2: Analyze thematic and stylistic characteristics of works studied.
- Describe distinct literary characteristics of the time period for their structure and meaning, using correct terminology and examples from different genres.
Goal 3: Document conclusions they draw in written responses to literary works studied.
- Engage in literary discussion by formulating informed responses with evidence to support personal interpretation of the works assigned.
- Compose critical response papers about the assigned readings in clear and grammatically correct prose using MLA format.
